Beste leerling, ouder(s)/verzorger(s) en collega’s,
Corona heeft de wereld op zijn kop gezet. Ook op Wolfert Tweetalig gaat het anders dan we hadden gepland. Wij zien dat sommige van onze leerlingen het moeilijk hebben: minder contact met leeftijdsgenoten, minder ritme en slechtere prestaties. Corona heeft op iedereen een grote impact. Met elkaar willen we dit doorbreken. Daarom werken we aan een plan voor het nieuwe schooljaar om onze leerlingen te ondersteunen waar het nodig is. In deze brief vertellen wij je hier meer over. Ook lichten we ons besluit over zelftesten voor leerlingen toe.
Geld van de minister
De ministers van Onderwijs maakten in februari 2021 bekend dat zij 8,5 miljard euro uittrekken voor het onderwijs: het Nationaal Programma Onderwijs. Zo willen de ministers alle leerlingen kansen bieden. Scholen moeten een plan maken hoe zij hun leerlingen willen ondersteunen en hoe zij achterstanden willen wegwerken. In de zomer ontvangen scholen een geldbedrag om hun plan uit te voeren. Uiteraard zijn wij al gestart met de voorbereidingen van ons plan.
De voorbereidingen zijn al gestart
Mentoren en coaches hebben inmiddels met hun leerlingen gesproken over de persoonlijke leerplannen en meer dan 100 leerlingen maken inmiddels met veel plezier gebruik van onze Gearbox. The Gearbox geeft hen de mogelijkheid om concreet benoemde resultaten op het gebied van kwalificatie en/of persoonsvorming binnen een afgesproken tijd te realiseren. Hiermee kan de leerling succes ervaren. Dit traject zetten we voort in schooljaar 2021-2022.
Einde schooljaar
Met nog negen weken te gaan voordat de zomervakantie start, komt het einde van dit schooljaar al in zicht. We hopen dat we door eventuele versoepelingen van de maatregelen nog wat sociale activiteiten met elkaar kunnen organiseren, zoals klassenuitjes of een klassenfeest. Wat we ongeacht versoepelingen sowieso nog voor de zomervakantie zullen organiseren zijn diverse online internationaliseringsactiviteiten. De voorbereidingen voor de projecten Food for Thought (TTO 2) en Sustainable Development Goals (TTO 3) zijn al in volle gang. Maar natuurlijk ook voor de Language Immersion Programmes (TV4), The iMAS Days en Model United Nations (of een alternatief voor MUN) (TH4 & TV5).
Internationalisering in 2021-2022
Op Wolfert Tweetalig staat leren in een internationaal maatschappelijke context centraal. Die context is van essentieel belang voor ons onderwijs omdat het mogelijkheden biedt elkaars verschillen te begrijpen en te respecteren. Het biedt nieuwe perspectieven en ideeën en stelt in staat om te leren en te groeien van de culturen en ervaringen van anderen.
Het is wegens alle reisbeperkingen niet waarschijnlijk dat er in het huidige schooljaar nog fysieke internationale reizen in klassenverband plaats kunnen vinden. Maar de perspectieven vanaf de zomer lijken gunstig. Daarom willen we in schooljaar 2021-2022 naast de reguliere internationalisering ook een inhaal-internationaliseringsprogramma aanbieden. Concreet betekent dit het volgende:
Leerlingen die niet deel willen nemen aan de inhaalactiviteit bieden we een thuisblijfprogramma aan.
Het gereserveerde bedrag voor de internationale activiteit uit de ouderbijdrage van het huidige schooljaar gebruiken we om de inhaal-activiteit na de zomervakantie te bekostigen.
Zelftesten voor leerlingen
Het ministerie heeft recentelijk als aanvullende maatregel ter bestrijding van het coronavirus voor alle scholen in het voortgezet onderwijs zelftesten beschikbaar gesteld om risicogericht te kunnen testen als er sprake is van een besmetting in een klas. Dit betekent dat wanneer een leerling positief getest is op het virus alle leerlingen uit die klas op school gevraagd worden een vrijwillige zelftest te doen onder begeleiding van een getrainde medewerker. Ouders moeten we hier dan vooraf toestemming voor vragen. De uitslag van deze vrijwillige zelftest hoeft niet bekend gemaakt te worden. Wanneer een leerling positief test moet de ouder contact opnemen met de GGD om een test te laten doen in de GGD-testlocatie.
Wij kiezen ervoor om geen zelftesten af te nemen bij ons op school. Mede omdat het gevoel van vrijwillige deelname in het gedrang komt wanneer je een hele klas tegelijk gaat testen. Wij vinden sociale veiligheid ontzettend belangrijk en willen een gevoel van groepsdruk te allen tijde voorkomen. Ook zijn wij van mening dat je het testen op een virus daar moet laten waar het volgens ons hoort, namelijk bij de GGD. Op Wolfert Tweetalig verzorgen we onderwijs.
Leerlingen kunnen, als zij dat willen, een zelftest afhalen bij de receptie van de school om mee te nemen naar huis. Het is niet de bedoeling dat zij zichzelf gaan testen in het schoolgebouw.

Dear student, parent(s)/carer(s) and colleague,
Corona has turned the world upside down. At Wolfert Bilingual things have also gone differently than we had planned. We see that some of our students are struggling: limited contact with their peers, less focus and poorer performance. Corona has a major impact on everyone. Together we want to make things better. That is why we are working on a plan for the new school year to support our students extra where needed. We will tell you more about it in this letter. We will also explain our decision on student self-testing.
Funding from the government
In February 2021, the Ministers of Education announced that they will allocate 8.5 billion euros for education: the National Education Program. In this way, the ministers want to offer equal opportunities to all students. Schools have to make a plan on how they aim to support their students. In the summer, schools will subsequently receive a sum of money to implement their plans. Of course we, at Wolfert Bilingual, have already started preparing for our plan.
Preparations have already started
Mentors and coaches have already spoken with their students about their personal plans and more than 100 students are already gladly using our Gearbox. The Gearbox gives them the opportunity to achieve specific objectives within a set time. This allows the student to experience success. We will continue with their development plans and the Gearbox in the next school year 2021-2022 .
End of school year
With nine weeks to go before the summer holidays start, the end of this school year is swiftly approaching. We hope that through more lenient measures we will be able to organise some end-of-year social activities together, such as outings or a class party. What we will definitely be organising before the summer holidays though, are various online international activities, like a Food for Thought Project (TTO 2) and a Sustainable Development Goals Project (TTO 3). As well as various Language Immersion Programmes (TV4), The iMAS Days and Model United Nations (or an alternative for MUN) (TH4 & TV5).
International activities in 2021-2022
At Wolfert Bilingual, learning in an international social context plays a central role. This context is essential for our education because it offers opportunities to understand and respect each other’s differences. It offers new perspectives and ideas and allows us to learn and grow from the cultures and experiences of others.
Although it is not very likely that any physical international travel can take place in the remaining weeks of our current school year, the prospects from the summer onwards seem favourable. Therefore, we are preparing to offer a catch-up international activity programme at the start of the school year 2021-2022 in addition to the regular international activities. This means the following:
Students who do not want to participate in the catch-up activity will be offered a stay-at-home-programme in school.
We will use the reserved amount from the current year’s bilingual school fee for the international activity to pay for the catch-up activity after the summer holidays.
Self-tests for students
As an additional measure to combat coronavirus, the ministry has recently made self-tests available for all schools in secondary education in order to be able to have students and staff test themselves in case there is a reported infection. This means that when a student has tested positive for the virus, all students in that class at school are asked to take a voluntary self-test under the guidance of a trained employee. Prior to that we must ask all parents for permission. The result of this voluntary self-test is private and does not have to be shared with anyone.When a student’s test is positive, the parents must contact the GGD to have an official test done at the GGD test location.
We choose not to facilitate self-tests at our school. Partly because the feeling of voluntary participation is compromised when you are asked to test an entire class simultaneously. We consider social safety extremely important and want to avoid any feeling of peer pressure at all times. Also, we strongly believe that you should leave testing for a virus up to the professionals where it belongs, namely at the GGD. Our core business at Wolfert Bilingual is providing our students with high quality education.
Students can, if they wish, pick up a self-test at the school reception to take home. They are not allowed to test themselves in the school building.
