About the School Counsellor.

Introduction to the School Counsellor.

How I work

My name is Margaret Welten and I fully appreciate that coming for counselling takes courage as it involves facing yourself and asking someone else for help. The counselling environment and relationship is very important and I offer a relaxed, comfortable and informal space within the school for you to explore any issues you want to bring to counselling. I practise as an integrative therapist, which means I am able to blend a number of different models of counselling, offering you a unique and personal therapy.

When you contact me as a first step to considering counselling, I will arrange for us to meet for a one to one introductory session. This gives us the opportunity to explore your requirements in more depth; for me to explain further how we will work together; to check that counselling is appropriate and for you to ask any further questions that you may have.

If at the end of this meeting we decide to work together, a regular appointment time and number of sessions will be agreed. After that we will review the process on an ongoing basis to summarise what you are gaining from our work together.

Background & experience

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and a certificate in Counselling Skills from Manchester College.

I am originally from Scotland and I have had connections with the Netherlands since 2005. I relocated permanently to the Netherlands in February 2009. I am married and I have two gorgeous step-daughters who are twins.

Prior to achieving my counselling qualifications I obtained a Masters in Human Resource Management and for over 20 years I have been working with people via my work as a human resources professional.

I have regular supervision on my practice and I am committed to my continuing professional development.
