School Accreditation Update

On the 13th of May, 2010 we were delighted to hear the news that RISS had been accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). All members of staff are very proud of this achievement and, in particular, the description of RISS as an exemplary school. The plaques awarded to RISS are displayed in the showcase in the main entrance of the school.

Being accredited by CIS and NEASC will enable RISS to attract the highest calibre of teachers and students. It will also make it possible for RISS to offer our graduating students a High School Diploma accredited by NEASC as well as the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma.

RISS is one school out of only 346 schools worldwide that are accredited by CIS. This is definitely an achievement to be proud of. In order to satisfy the high standards set by these organisations RISS demonstrated the highest standards of education meeting, and in some cases exceeding, the criteria for accreditation.

The visiting team (made up of members from CIS and NEASC) inspected our lesson planning, teaching and learning, our curriculum, philosophy and objectives, the school building, the resources, health and safety, student support, extra-curricular activities and student and community life.

On the 19th of July, 2011 the First Report on Progress and Planning was accepted. All staff members were involved with this report and their input and dedication was exceptional.

The next step in the process is the 5-year report which is due in September 2013. Accreditation is not a static qualification but rather an on-going review of life at RISS which involves all its stake holders, parents, teachers, students and the local community. RISS is committed to continual improvement and development through self- reflection, peer review and sharing best practices and we also encourage and welcome contributions from all interested parties.
